| Zusammenfassung: | The hall in the 2nd floor of the cloister northern part of cathedral in Brandenburg/Havel offers wallpaintings on northern and southern walls and arches from the middle of the 15th century. After the uncovering in 2007, the DGF-funded tandem project of the University of Paderborn and the University of Applied Sciences Hildesheim explores the artistic and conservation aspects of these paintings. The focus of this work is the analysis of the painting technique of the paintings in the arches. The cloister today consists of ten yokes, of which eight ribbed vaults have survived. They show as floral design of a tendril, flowers or fruits and a crown, which have a very high quality and detailed design. Their illusionistic appearance based on graphic elements like internal lines and hatching, as well as on the use of light and shadow areas. A special feature is the use of a glazes on the primary colour. Extensive restorative and scientific studies allow the conclusion, that it is a multi layered tempera painting on a proteinaceous ground. |
