Zusammenfassung: | The Sigismund-Sebastian-Altar bears to the outstanding witnesses of the Old German altar piece painting. In consequences of the Reformation and the iconoclasm the triptych was separated and partly modified. There is now the chance to present the paintings as a triptych to the public again. Therefore this study discuss several suggestions for a solution and advises a restraining conservation of the middle painting with predominant leaving of the over painting from the early 17th century, and only conservation treatment of the outboard wings. The recommendations are based on an all-embracing technological analyse of the painting technique. A virtual reconstruction complements the study, illustrates the findings, allows a restraining conservation and gives the viewer an impression of the original effect of the triptych. |
