Zusammenfassung: Apart from few exceptions, baptism angels emerged exclusively during the 17th and 18th century as equipment of village or provincial churches mainly in northern and central Germany and in Poland. Within the present work, a baptism angel originating from the church in Rengerslage (Altmark) was studied. First, the development and the importance of baptism angel sculptures were described and the sculpture of Rengerslage was compared with other sculptures of this type. A primary topic of interest was the question whether the baptism angel and the altar of Rengerslage were created during the same time period. Additionally, the sculptural technique and the polychromy of the sculpture were investigated and its original appearance reconstructed. The current state of preservation and the prevalent climate conditions inside the church of Rengerslage were examined. Finally, a concept for conservation and restoration of the baptism angel was developed. This concept was already exemplarily implemented and will be practically realized after the completion of this presented diploma thesis. Aesthetic questions concerning the presentation and requirements in terms of conservation of the church interior were also discussed in this thesis.
