Zusammenfassung: The burial chamber of Count Philipp II. of Hessen-Rheinfels and his wife Anna-Elisabeth in the Protestant church of St. Goar - Investigations of the burial chamber, particularly of the stucco moulding created in 1592 – Identification of technology, of destruction and consideration of methods for conservation In the burial chamber of Count Philipp II. of Hessen-Rheinfels (died in 1583) in the church of St. Goar one of the rarest examples of stucco moulding, which was designed by the court sculptor of Hessen, Wilhelm Vernuken, can be found. That burial chamber was examined by surveying technology and construction of the stucco as well, as analysing the used materials. Description and investigation of damages of the stucco moulding (gypsum plaster) as well as structural conditions are further aspects that have to be taken into account while looking for suitable solutions. Basis of an approach of conservation of the above described stucco moulding are to be work technical experiments and rehearsals
