Zusammenfassung: This diploma thesis describes the creation of a structure for the preventive conservation of the archaeological glass collection, Collection Guigoz. The collection consists of circa 2000 intact glass vessels that are currently stored in a highly damaging surrounding field, which has resulted in heavy corrosion layers, crusts, and mould growth. A holistic survey and assessment of the collection itself, the collection’s environment as well as the macro-environment are designed, assembled and finally undertaken. The structure of the aforementioned processes are drawn from techniques used in other sectors of collection preservation. The thesis covers detailed discussions regarding conditions for, and causes of, deterioration and then proceeds to explore various possible solutions. After evaluating the results, conclusions revealed that the removal of the entire collection to a more advantageous surrounding field is the ideal way of preserving the contents of this particular collection. Then, the unique issues pertaining to the acclimatization of corroded glass to different climates became the central point of interest on which detailed research and positive solutions were developed. Finally, a theoretical concept regarding the removal/transit of the entire glass collection has been described along with a survey of the desired future location.
