Zusammenfassung: | The cabinet situated on the ground floor of the main house of Bothmer Castle is a unique example of baroque interior decoration in Mecklenburg which was shaped by North German-Dutch-English influences. Besides art-historical reflections upon the castle and the panelling of marquetry type, there were given in advance – due to the fact that room descriptions have been missing so far – some aspects on the former interior design of the castle. The panelling of marquetry type was examined with regard to its construction, materials and binding agents used as well as techniques of manufacture. By means of the results, among other things, changes of the construction and surface due to extensive reworking in the 19th century as well as in the years of use as a nursing home could be proved. Subsequently to the comprehensive documentation of the maintenance condition recommendations were given for conserving and restoring measures. Besides climatic investigations and the conservator’s point of view on an improvement of climatic resulting from that, an exemplary exposure of the doubly over painted window shutter and the subsequent restoration of a panel surface represented further important aspects of this work. |
