Zusammenfassung: | This thesis examines the central component of a late Gothic, polygonal pillar covering, created in 1515 for the Freiberg Cathedral of St. Mary. The object comprises a panel with a mounted figure representing an unidentified saint. As part of the research process, the object was examined in terms of its historical context, artistic technique, and current state of preservation. This included a brief overview of pillar coverings and a hypothesis regarding the original placement and presentation of the thesis object in the Cathedral of St. Mary. The practical portion of the study focused on the removal of a wax preservation layer from the early 20th century and the exposure of the azurite paint layer, both of which had significantly impaired the appearance of the work. Additionally, a concept for the inpainting was developed and tested on sample areas. Finally, possibilities for the future presentation of the object in the Cathedral of St. Mary were prepared. |
