In order to do so, two cabinets, which are each part of a museum´s exhibition. These objects, crafted in Europe, depict human beings with different cultural origins in a degrading way and entail discriminatory elements. The aim of the work is to find out, whether and how these objects are presented by museums. In particular, it will be focused on the descriptions of these objects and whether these pieces of furniture are treated differently due to their colonial origin, which could have an influence on how well they are preserved. After the literature research about the historical context, racism, and restoration ethics on how to deal with racist heritage, interviews were conducted with the restorers and art historians in charge. The results of the work might con-tribute to steer and intensify public discourse on the issue. |
