Zusammenfassung: A series of tests was conducted to determine the effectiveness of different blasting media in removing corrosion layers from iron and brass materials. Glass beads, plastic granulate, walnut shells, and potato starch were evaluated based on their ability to remove corrosion products, change in gloss, potential for damage, and residual blasting agent. The tests revealed that glass beads were highly effective in reducing corrosion products, but also caused significant surface damage and a change in finish. Plastic granulate had a milder effect with less removal. Among the organic abrasives, potato starch was found to be highly effective, while walnut shells were gentle with minimal roughening of the metal surfaces. The effectiveness of the blasting media depended on various factors, including material composition, corrosion products, and external influences, as well as the blasting parameters used. The results have implications for further research on the corrosion resistance of blasted surfaces and chemical interactions between the blasting material and medium.
