The thesis at hand examines a sandstone-epitaph dating back to the 17th century which was fabricated for an almost unknown bailiff by an entirely anonymous sculp-tor. The object is in dire need of restoration, due to the fact that it shows extensive dam-ages resulting from years of damp exposure which degrades the artful appearance. It was necessary to do comprehensive inquests to assess the condition, for example an analysis of the harmful sulphates, to recover the aesthetic and historic authenticity. The focus is on the three-dimensional shape and only secondary on the colour coat because it would not have been possible to do a complete analysis on it during this work. The developed conception of measures specifies a conservation and possible restoration of the memorial. Priority lies on securing the substance and reduction of sulphates to ensure the conveyance of the artwork into the future. All following steps of procedure rely on these actions, which is why security measures have already taken place during this research.
