Zusammenfassung: | For this thesis, a contemporary steel sculpture welded together from found scrap steel pieces by artist Wolfgang Georgsdorf is investigated. The investigation is focused on the stability and surface quality of the steel construction, which has been exhibited outdoors and unsheltererd since its manufacture in 1982/83. The main steps in the course of this project consist of a documentation of the physical inventory and condition based on thorough literature research and scientific analysis, and building on this, the development of a concept for conservatory measures, as well as for transporting the object to a new location. Furthermore, the historical context of the steel sculpture is documented, drawing on recorded conversations with the artist and extensive literature research. For developing the conservation concept, several stakeholders and positions have to be taken into account (i.e. museum, artist, conservation ethics). |
