Zusammenfassung: The subject of this Master-Thesis are five stained glass panels from the Alexanderkirche Marbach am Neckar, four head panels and one trefoil, depicting the figure of a man with a speech scroll. Those five panels are the only remains of the original stained glass furnishing of the magnificent gothic rebuilding of the church, dated by the CVMA at around 1464.
The medieval parts of the panels are fragmentary and severely damaged. Several repairs from different periods are discernible. The remaining, highly skilled painting gives an example of the change in style during the Gothic period, abandoning the traditional way of glass painting in favour of a more realistic representation. Two obviously etched red glasses in the trefoil document an early use of this new technique for the glazing of the Alexanderkirche.
The panels had been removed from the east window in 1997 and were stored in the attic of the church. This Master-Thesis presented an opportunity to document for the first time the make-up und condition of the panels thoroughly. Additionally it presents possibilities and requirements for the future use of the panels which as yet has not been decided upon.
