| Zusammenfassung: | The present Master Thesis deals with stained glass panels in the castle museum of Schloss Friedenstein in Gotha, Germany. The collection includes medieval and early modern panels, together with glass paintings from the 19th century. In addition to art- historical investigations, the origin as well as the possible creators of the panes shall be traced. The results allow a regional assignment to Southern Germany and Switzerland. The assessment as well as the appraisal of given material aspects concerning this collection and its condition constitute the basis for recommendations of their ideal storage. Above all, this thesis is going to suggest ideal climate parameters and materials which shall be used to preserve the stained glass. Finally, a concept for conservation and restoration measures is exemplified with two selected glass paintings. |
