Zusammenfassung: | The late neo‐classical stucco‐ceiling of the Schiller´s room represents an integrative part of an ensemble of historic memorial‐rooms in the city palace of Weimar. The coffered ceiling consists mainly of large parts of prefabricated stucco‐elements. The examination of the ceiling allowed for a detailed understanding of the manufacturing process of the ceiling´s construction, of the stucco elements and of the various paint layers and gildings. With the help of archival research, it was possible to classify the chronological order of the work’s progress and to relate the various steps to the respective craftsmen. Furthermore, this thesis is dealing with the compilation of a concept for conservation and restoration, taking into account the function of the room, the ceiling’s context with the walls and the other rooms of the ensemble. Methods have been developed inter alia for the treatment of the highly damaged leaf gildings, for the options to clean the distemper and for different approaches towards a reversible stucco replacement. |
