Zusammenfassung: The Trento railway station (Italy) created by Angiolo Mazzoni from 1934 till 1936 successively lost its artistically composed visual identity since it was reconstructed in the early post-war era owing to wear and architectural intervention.
The main topic of the practical part of the thesis deals with the survey, the documentation, evaluation of the architectural surfaces and the applied materials with regard to the original design concept of 1936. In addition, tests for the uncovering and the cleaning of covered superficial parts were carried out and possibilities for a future protection and maintenance appropriate to a heritage-protected monument were discussed.
The theoretical part of the thesis is dedicated to the study of archival and historical sources in Trentino and Rome which constituted the foundation for the practical part.
