Zusammenfassung: | The thesis discusses a tempera painting from Ludwig Gruber (1889-1967), which is owned by the Österreichische Galerie Belvedere. The emphasis of the theoretical part lies on the painting’s art historical investigation in the context of World War I. Based on scientific and radiodiagnostic examination a concept for the conservation and restoration is being developed. The concept is adapted to the special requirements of the sensitive tempera painting. The object’s condition is impaired due to inadequate treatment in the past, during which fabric-lined repair patches were glued onto several tears in the canvas with pure colophony. The practical work focusses on the removal of the patches and the reduction of the resin, which is located on the back of the canvas and on the matte paint layer. |
