Zusammenfassung: | This Master Thesis was developed in cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture, Engineering and Management, the Faculty of Preservation of Cultural Heritage and the State Archive in North Rhine-Westphalia, East Westphalia-Lippe Department, in Detmold. The interdisciplinary purpose of this Master Thesis is to develop an exemplary measurement process of building physical air parameters in rooms in order to connect approaches of building physics and preventive conservation. In the theoretical part, the influence of outside air conditions and relevant heat and humidity transport mechanisms inside a building as well as microbiological conditions for mould growth are explained. One of the main features is to show different possible applications of the Mollier-h,x-diagram. General functionality of air condi-tioning and relevant measuring instruments are described. A summary of the most important climate-induced chemical and physical degradation processes in paper, based on the latest research results, aims to clarify whether from the conservators’ perspective climate tolerances in stacks larger than those recommended in DIN ISO 11799 would be acceptable. Subsequently, building physical, microbiological and preservative boundary conditions are determined, which are entered into a tabular evaluation scheme. Boundary conditions of air conditioning are too complex to be included. The practical part of this Thesis is primarily concerned with a situation analysis of a stack building from the 1960s. Climate problems and even microbial infestation of archive materials persist in this building, although the air-conditioning is based on the limit-value-recommendations of DIN ISO 11799. The problems can be traced on the one hand to a poorly heat-insulated building and on the other hand to a possibly undersized air conditioning system. By reference to measured data of consistent climate measurements with data loggers, a transfer of the tabular evaluation scheme in practice takes place. Measurement points, which describe a room climate in practice adequately, are defined. On the basis of further room air condition equations, conclusions can be drawn among other things concerning the effects of the air conditioning system. |
