Zusammenfassung: Subject of this diploma thesis are the vault paintings of the northern cloister.
Introductory it describes the history of the monasterys buildings. Next it takes a look at the vault paintings in context with the cloisters history including preceding conservations. By examination of remaining painting layers three different versions could be found. The currently visible version probably dates from the second half of the 16th century.
It follows a report of the current state of conservation, the painting methods and damages.
As an example there was done a mapping of the cloisters 4th yoke. Causes for damages are evaluated, such as preceding conservations. Based on these examinations there is developed a concept for conservation, there are made suggestions for restoration. Emphasis lays upon reducing organic coatings, consolidating painting layers and handling layers resting upon the paintings surface. Samples were restored, missing parts were completed and retouched.
Finally, on the basis of these sample areas, strategies were elaborated for the future conservation and restoration of the various gildings in the banqueting-hall.
