Zusammenfassung: The master’s thesis deals with nine detached wall paintings from the Nuremberg town hall. The fragments of the wall paintings date back to the paintings made in 1613/21 and have been detached during a restoration in 1904/05.
The inventory and the condition of the detached wall paintings were detected and documented in the context of the thesis. The different picturing phases with their manufacturing processes were explained in more detail. In addition, the precise methods of detachment and transfer to the new support could be traced. The detachment of the wall paintings could be classified in its historical context by consulting the history of care and preservation of ancient monuments and the history of restoration in the early 20th century in Germany. Furthermore, principal ideas for the creation of a concept for the conservation and restoration were developed.
