Zusammenfassung: This dissertation deals with the conservation and restoration of an Egyptian ceramic vessel, which is surrounded by a basket. Since 1906 the object has been in the care of the Ägyptische Museum in Berlin. First the object materials are analysed. This is intended to put the vessel in its historical context while consulting typological aspects. Phase two involves a description of the factors for deterioration especially in regards to the plant material, followed by an overview of the current state of research concerning the conservation of basketry. Thirdly, the different methods of restoration and conservation are discussed. Special attention is focused on the consolidation of various parts of the basket. This includes the examination of the effect of polyethylenglycol on dry plant material and its long-term flexibilisation. The closing phase involves the conservation of the object from cleaning and glueing of the ceramic vessel to the bridging of broken basketstrands with the documentation.
