Zusammenfassung: The following thesis deals with a privatly owned, large-sized, partially restored canvas painting of 1710 with the portrait of Friedrich Ernst Freiherr to Knyphausen. It is an approved original art replica of a burnt painting from Castle Lütetsburg, which was the decisive factor for the asignment of the artist Antoine Pesne to the Berlin court.
The latest restoration measure aspired a de-restoration of the painting, in which process the doublings of past phases of restoration were removed. The present condition shows massive imperfections, extensive fillings and overpaintings, as well as an irregular varnish.
Beside the technological examination a detailed condition report will be added, including an interpretation of the possible causes for the damages. Finally an objectspecified concept of conservation and restoration will be developed for further treatment of the partially restored canvas painting.
