Abstract: | The submitted treatise shows the feasibilities and limitations of the removal of synthetic stabilizing adhesives (acrylic dispersions) from an archaeological woolen fabric. The condition of the aged fabric is microscopically examined and documented; the applied stabilizing adhesive is analyzed by means of spectometry. A method of removal is acquired by means of experiments with pieces of a comparably stabilized new woolen fabric. Evidence for the efficency of the method is established for small fragments of the original fabric. Limitations for the application of the method to a large piece of fabric are demonstrated and proposals thereto are introduced. |
