Abstract: This thesis deals with the seven late gothic reliquiary busts depicting St. Antonina and six of her maids, which are located in St. Johann Baptist in Cologne. By comparison with relevant examples during these studies, the reliquary busts were attributed to the Master of the "von Carben´schen Gedächtnisstiftung." An introduction is made about the general background of reliquary containers, holy heads and reliquary cult. A closer look was taken at the busts´ origin, the church of St. Johann Baptist itself, an the sculptures´ arrangement within the context of their location. In the course of the artist´s attribution the reliquary busts were exemined in reference to their materials and technology. Examination of the condition was also carried out and subsequently, a treatment proposal was developed.
