Abstract: | The Marc Anton Monument by Arthur Strasser (*1854, +1927 inVienna) is one of the bronze statues (originally patinated and partly gilded) by the Viennese k. u. k. Kunstgiesserei (Art Foundry) in 1899-1990 as a commission from the Ministry of Culture for the 1900 Paris World Fair. It represents an important example of Austrian monumental sculpture at the turn of the century and was subsequently erected on the grounds of the Viennese Secession building in 1901. The main focus of this diploma-thesis was to develop a concept for the in situ treatment and care programme for the appropriate material preservation and exibition of the monument. An evaluation and assessment of internationally-used protective coatings for outdoor bronze sculptures were also featured in this project. |
