Abstract: | This bachelor’s thesis focuses on setting up a conservation workshop for book preservation at the Dombibliothek Hildesheim. The goal is to equip the workshop in accordance with conservation standards to enable the autonomous implementation of preservation measures. The focus lies on the evaluation of furniture and equipment; the need for consumables and auxiliary materials was deprioritized and remains a task for the future. Based on a comprehensive needs assessment, qualitative expert interviews, and an on-site situational analysis, the ideal conditions for a workshop were developed and compared with the current situation. This revealed an increased need for specific furniture, equipment, and measures to improve climatic and spatial conditions. The results include prioritized lists of necessary acquisitions, specific recommendations for workshop equipment, and suggestions for improving working conditions. This work provides a solid foundation for the structured and timely implementation of the workshop setup and contributes to the long-term preservation of the valuable book collections of the Dombibliothek Hildesheim. |
