Overview:
Abstract: The thesis deals with the conservation and restoration of a small Flemish Baroque painting. The wooden panel has been restored several times and one of the board joints is open. Two horizontal strips and dovetail-shaped inserts on the back of the panel, which were glued on during an earlier restoration to reinforce it, block the movement of the wood. The focus of the work is on the structural preservation of the wooden panel. The treatment concentrates on removing the battens and re-gluing the boards. In addition, the degraded secondary varnish is removed and the reconstruction of paint layer losses with fillings and retouching as well as an adjustment of the framing is carried out.
