Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: This paper provides a comprehensive overview of the so-called "Old Dutch stretching method". Both the historical and the contemporary context are considered. The focus is on the "Old Dutch stretching method" as an alternative system in the conservation of canvas paintings. In the course of this, a general introduction to the stretching of fabric supports is given and potential damage patterns are discussed.
In addition, valuable insights such as material peculiarities, practical experience and scientific studies of tensioning behavior will be developed on the basis of a practical implementation.
The knowledge gained here provides an initial approach, but further research is recommended.
