Overview:

Abstract: The Deister-Süntel valley in Lower Saxony was one of the most influential regions in Germany in the mid-20th century in terms of industrial chair production. This bachelor´s thesis provides insights into the history of the chair region around Eimbeckhausen, collects knowledge about manufacturing techniques and machines in the 1960s and studies potential traces of processing that the machines left on the furniture. With the help of the German Chair Museum Eimbeckhausen (Deutsches Stuhlmuseum Eimbeckhausen) and interviews with contemporary witnesses, the machines and their working methods are explained. The manufacturing process is reconstructed and documented photographically using an example object.
