Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The research focus of this work is the creation of a catalogue of criteria for assessing the condition of vegetable-tanned leather. The assessment is based on appearance, haptics, hearing and the sense of smell of the person carrying out the work. Recommendations for subsequent examinations and conservation treatment are made according to the results of the condition assessment. The suitability and feasibility of the developed catalogue of criteria was tested and validated on selected historical books. The developed catalogue meets all requirements and can be recommended for use on book bindings. Further tests should be carried out before applying it to other types of objects.
