Overview:

Abstract: The bachelor´s thesis compares the style, techniques and materials used on the examples of a monumental painting on plaster and a medium-format metal panel painted by the artist Wilhelm Lautenbach (born 1881 in Oelde, died 1957 in Münster). He worked with a wide variety of techniques on different supports and sizes. The results of the artistic-technological investi-gations show his recognizable painting style with proportionally fine shading lines and expres-sive figures. However, the techniques are adapted to the support. Thereby he used the most modern materials for his time, such as mineral paints on plaster and extremely thinly rolled zinc plates as picture supports. Mineral paints were first developed in the 19th century, both were mainly used in the 19th century.
