Abstract: | The epitaphs of the parish church St. Andreas in Grades are witnesses of the history of the small town. Four of these memorial monuments, which are on display in the entrance hall and on the facade of the church, are dealt with in this work. The stone materials used for the monuments originate from the direct surrounding. All four assets show complicated mineralogic compositions. The detected damage patterns are a direct result of these mineralogic compositions with the relevant weathering. The main emphasis of the present thesis lies on the development of a consolidation concept for a very complex damage pattern existing on one of the monuments. Scientific analysis are conducted in order to support the material-and-condition surveys and for the development of a conservation concept. Two of the monuments are conserved in the course of the thesis. |
