Overview:

Abstract: This thesis deals with the possibilities and limits
of the restoration of a desalinated iron find
complex consisting of a billhook with chape and
axe head. The problem encountered is post-
corrosion, which has led to the spalling of large
parts of the surface. The elaboration of the
concept results from the intensive examination
of the objects. This includes the written or
photographic documentation of the finds as well
as the detailed theoretical treatment of the
material at hand, the chemical process of
corrosion in the soil and the scientific
investigations. Based on this, test series are
carried out for uncovering, temporary securing
and preparatory securing measures. This will
result in an adequate concept for restoration and
consolidation.
