Overview:

Abstract: This Bachelor-Thesis deals with the conservation and restoration of a part-set imagery, fitted in a wooden frame and housed in the Naturalienkabinett Waldenburg. The object dates back to the first half of the 17th century and belongs to the Lincksche Naturalienkabinett Leipzig. It depicts the crucifixion of the suffering Christ while the Saxon Electress Hedwig of Denmark is kneeling in front of the cross. The object bears a gilded and raised inscription with various verses from the Luther Bible. This limestone tablet has been worked highly detailed, leaving only the surface of the lettering and the painting area raised above the background. The primary concern of the concept of measures is to visually calm the appearance of the object, to treat the areas of missing paint-layers and to introduce a new hanging-system that holds the object in a museum exhibition.
