Overview:

Abstract: The object in the focus of this Master-Thesis consists of almost 13 000 fragments of medieval stained glass windows, which were found during archaeological excavations in the area of the former Franciscan monastery in Saalfeld (Thuringia / Germany). The fragments dates to the 13th and 14th century and belonged possibly to the church or cloister itself. They are remainings of figurative and non-figurative windows (grisaille), as well as crown glass windows. The Master-T hesis describes the maintained fragments with their individual designs and tries to illustrate the former aesthetic of the windows on the basis of compareble stained glass windows. The focus is on creating a concept for the necessary conservation work and finding an appropriate way of storing and displaying in an exhibition.
