Abstract: The subject of this Master-thesis are 16 fragments of a Roman ground floor mosaic, originating from the Praetorium in Cologne and dated into the 2nd century AD. The fragments were recovered during an excavation in the town hall in 1953 under the direction of Otto Doppelfeld. After arrival of the fragments, 59 in total, in August 2017 at the University of Applied Sciences Erfurt, it turned out that there were indeed several mosaics. Therefore, this work deals with 16 related fragments and theirtreatment. The aim of this thesis was the establishment and implementation of a concept ofnecessary conservation and restoration measures. The focus was on the reconstruction of the original design, the fitting on a new support system and the museum presentation. In addition, analyses were conducted on the exant and condition of the fragments and their technological composition.
