Abstract: The present paper deals with the conservation of a 17th century horse harness of the Dresden Armoury collection (Rüstkammer der Staatlichen Kunstsammlungen Dresden). The examined object reflects the collection in its variety of percious materials used and exquisite craftmanship. This necessitates high standards for the restoration and conservation measures taken to preserve and present the objects. First, the paper gives an overview of the materials and historical background of the artifact. Based on these results and further scientific research, a treatment propsal was established and afterwards carried out on a sample axis at the bridle. The paper closes by providingrequirements of preserving and displaying the horse harness within the museum. The results of the present paper enable to set standards for the treatment of the remaining collection artifacts.
