The Stadtmuseum Jena houses a wooden earth globe with supporting figure, given to the museum by a private donor in 1991. The aim of this thesis is the provision of a concept for the conservation and restoration of the globe. The focus lies on the heavily yellowed varnish, which severely limits the readability, and on the treatment of the damaged and partially detached globe-map. The special significance of the globe becomes evident in its wooden construction, which also explains the fragile condition of the object. Using material analysis and art-technological examination and test series, options for the treatment of the globe are being discussed, compared and partially carried out.
