Abstract: The present Master-Thesis deals with the extant and condition of fragments found in the Margaret-Church in Steinbach (Saxony-Anhalt), which belong to a late Gothic winged altarpiece. An inter- pretation of the extant refers to the original appearance of the altar in terms of its construction, size and colour-scheme. In addition, a supposed affiliation of two sculptures in the neighbouring Maria-Magdalenenkirche in Bad Bibra is investigated. Missing information on the original location are being supplemented. Various options for the desired presentation of the fragments are provided in an overview. Further considerations for a conservation and restoration concept are presented.
