Parts of the wall painting of the former abbey church SS. Cosmas and Damian in Wadersloh-Liesborn are the focus of this bachelor thesis. The late gothic ornamental painting of the caps of the choir vault from the 15th century and the settings of three keystones were examined as examples. An additional focus was on iconographic interpretations. For this purpose, the architectural history of the sacred building and also traditions relating to repainting and restorations could be used. With the support of scientific investigation, samples of the paint layer build up were analyzed and then interpreted. The result is a detailed as-built documentation. In addition, the conclusions could be assigned to individual remodeling of the church as well as documented restoration campaigns.
