Abstract: | Subject of this diploma thesis is the examination, conservation and stretching of the large-format easel painting The Day – Victory of Light by Georg Lührig. The damages include the loss of painting support and paint layers as a result of the exposure to moisture. Thematic focuses are the special painting technique of a mixture of oil-painting and -drawing, the aqueous pre-treatment and resulting dimensional changes of a stip-lining canvas, the selection of a stretcher and the stress ratio within the painting. |
