Abstract: | Dries Holthuys represents one of the most famous carvers of the late medieval artistic heritage of the lower Rhine region. The sculpture of the ‘Anna Selbdritt’ from Warbeyen belongs to his oeuvre. Based on the constancy survey of this sculpture the comprehensive investigation of the carving process and the polychromic characteristics develops an initial position for the complementation on further selected reference objects. Therefore the study provides a contribution of technological scientific findings of an increased workshop practice by this master from Cleves, who has been mainly extensive examined from an art historical perspective so far. |
