Abstract: | This thesis is part of the „Oral History“research project at the Academy of fine arts in Vienna and discusses the development of mountings and passepartouts at the Grafische Sammlung Albertina from 1805 until 2018. Based on the history of passepartouts, the professionalization of paper restoration in Vienna can be described. Passepartouts of drawings and printings are chronological classified. The collection history, the appearance of the passe-partouts as well as inventory catalogues and collection stamps served to classify the passepartouts. The printmaking was mounted on mounting cartons at the beginning of the 19th century, after 1822 it was stored in taped books. From 1900, printed graphics were isolated removed out of the taped books, from nationalization in 1919 regularly set in passepartouts. The drawings, however, was always kept in passe-partouts. At the beginning, these only consisted of a mounting carton. In the 1860s, they were supplemented by a passe-partout-mat. The hinged mat that appeared in the 1960s has been supplemented with a cover sheet since the 1990s. |
