Anna Siegel: Investigation, conservation and restoration of the canvas painting "Christ in the limbo" of an unknown artist back

Language: Original   -   Translation
Overview:

Abstract: The painting "Christ in Limbo" / “Christus in der Vorhölle” (undated, unknown artist) is the subject of this diploma thesis. It includes the documentation of the art-technological examination, the present condition, as well as the concept of conservation and restoration with the involved work stages. In 2015 the painting was found behind an archive cabinet in the Ev. Luth. Church in Leipzig Marienbrunn, where it was probably since the late 1960s. The picture was in a desolat state of preservation. Through years of recurring humidity, the painting was infested with mold fungi. The diploma thesis deals with the handling of a microbially infested painting and a possible presentation in the church of Leipzig Marienbrunn.
