Abstract: The house with a rectangular hall is a special place in Görlitz, one can find here various elements of several periods. Inside the house, there is a Renaissance hall with a beautifully painted ceiling. The walls also show magnificent paintings of this epoch. This hall has not been restored for a long time, in spite of its importance and history. All the surfaces of the walls are in a very bad condition and need to be conserved. The aim of the conservation concept therefore is the preservation of the hall, its presentation in the context of the whole building and its accessibility to the public.
In the context of this Master-Thesis, the inventory and condition of the hall have been recorded. In order to perform this work, extensive research had been carried out, the damages and their causation were analysed and documented.
Furthermore, a concept for the conservation and restauration of this special hall had been established, together with written proposals for preventive measures. Two exemplary areas were tested in order to review the applied conservation steps and to find the right solutions. Discussions were held about the way of presenting the hall. Finally, an estimation of the costs was made.
