Abstract: This thesis is concerned with an architectural work of the Renaissance. The court‐gate of the castle in
Marksuhl is the entrance to the yard of the castle. It was also used as the main entrance. Because of
severe damage it had sustained over the years, it was dismantled in the 1990s. At the moment, the
components of this construction are stored in the yard of the castle.
It will be necessary to rebuild the portal‐construction in order to present it in an appropriate way.
The bad condition of the components need affords urgent conservation measures.
In this thesis, the current condition of the dismantled elements has been investigated. Furthermore,
some suggestions are being made as to how to present the court‐gate in the future. This was done
with due consideration of the additional components which are necessary to rebuild the object. This
way, it was possible to find the right measures for the care and preservation of the court‐gate. In
addition to this, an assessment of the likely the costs of the rebuilding has been performed.
