Abstract: The painting on canvas, which was originally designed to be a Supraporte, is attributed the
Erfurt artist Jacob Samuel Beck and depicts a fruit and flower still life with a European
goldfinch. The Supraporte was covered in an ornate frame and was located in a wall boarding
over the door at the western wall of the white flower room. Presumably in the 1930’s the
boarding wall was dismantled and the Supraporte was removed and misappropriated. This
misappropriation included the gluing onto a wooden sheet and the inclusion into a desk.
During the diploma project, the misappropriated Supraporte was technically investigated.
This included the analysis by means of infrared light and x‐rays. The x‐rays revealed some
damages of the painting. Appropriate conservation and restoration concepts have been
developed and partly implemented. The infrared lights clarify the technical composition of
the painting were used to assign an artist’s name to the painting.
