Abstract: | Within the context of this thesis an examination was made of the late gothic painting in the former baptistery of the Protestant Collegiate Church St. Goar in the town of St. Goar. The examination focussed on the technological structure of the polychrome painting as well as its state of preservation and the causes of damage. Basing on the results of several detailed examination a suitable concept of conservation and restoration was worked out and observations for further presentation were drawn which focussed on adhering the painting to the ceiling surface. It became evident that it was absolutely necessary to secure the fragile painting. Finally the possible solutions resulting from theoretical consideration were transferred into a catalogue of measures which were practically applied and valued in sample surfaces. |
