Abstract: | In the west window of the St. Viti Church in Wechmar there is a monumental glass painting dating back to 1845. In it is described the legend of Count Gleichen with his two wives. This is unique on glass. The well‐known artist Paul Emil Jacobs of Gotha has provided the model for the creation of this painting. The glass window was painted by the studio of J.J. Kellner & sons with an elaborated technical quality. The topic of the diploma thesis is how to deal with painting losses in the important faces of the picture and with the replacements of former interferences which have enormously decreased the glass painting. Through depositing coloured glasses for visually disturbing replacements and restraining painting losses the visual impression could be improved essentially. Another focus of this work are the technical aspects of the protecting glazing and its arrangements which takes up the three‐dimensional and colour components of the original glass painting. |
