Abstract: | Subject of the present thesis is the plasticine-made model for a sculpture by cubist sculptor jacques Lipchitz. The model has to be seen as the origin of the bronze “Benediction” (1942-46) and is owned by Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz. The aim is an in-depth examination of the model as well as determining a coherent concept for the following conservation process. The very special charcteristics of the still malleable modelling material as well as weight and size of the large-scale sculpture are especially demanding. When developing a conclusive concept, also the diverse interactions of plasticine and underlying armature need to be considered. These interactions will be discussed in detail in a separate chapter. Practical conservation will be carried out on a sample area of the figure. |
