Abstract: The paper deals with the conservation treatment of the painting „Der siegreiche Hahn“, 17th century, Melchior d´Hondecoeter (workshop), from the collection of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden. It contains reports on technique and condition, a treatment proposal as well as a treatment report. The painting had various tears and punctures, paint losses and a strongly yellowed varnish. Aspects of preventive conservation in a staircase in Moritzburg Castle, Saxony, were examined, as the painting was to be presented there.
